California welcomes Open GDF players

For several years now, Hôtel California Paris Champs Elysées has welcomed the world’s greatest women’s tennis players during the Open GDF SUEZ, at Coubertin. This year marks the 20th edition, to be held from February 4-12, 2012, and this exceptional event calls for exceptional players. Three-time winner Amélie Mauresmo, now co-director of the tournament, has gone into overdrive, securing the participation of Maria Sharapova, Marion Bartoli and Li Na, three top-10 tennis players, and the world’s former number 1 player Jelena Jankovic.

These illustrious players will be pleased to return to the Hôtel California Paris Champs Elysées, whose staff members are getting ready to make sure they have a wonderful time. A special reception area has been set up in the new Lobby Bar, with a hostess on hand to welcome them. Tennis fans will head to Stade Pierre de Coubertin from February 4-12 to see a three-time Grand Slam winner, the French Open champion, and France’s and Serbia’s number-1 players. And these are just four reasons that could make the Open GDF SUEZ one of the main events on the international women’s tennis circuit. Hôtel California Paris Champs Elysées is proud to have a longstanding official partnership with IMG, the official tournament organizer. Plus, for the second consecutive years, the Open GDF Suez, a top WTA event, will feature an evening of friendly competition with Amélie Mauresmo, tournament co-director. On Tuesday, February 7, actors, entertainers, and veteran players will play in exhibition matches. François Cluzet, Omar Sy’s co-star in the hit film Intouchables, will serve as umpire, and Michèle Laroque will put on her tennis whites once more. Last year’s winner, then-unknown Petra Kvitova, has gone on to become the world’s number-2 player thanks to her success at Wimbledon and at the WTA Championships (the Masters of women’s tennis). Perhaps this year Coubertin will see the debut of another rising star? Hôtel California Paris Champs Elysées and its teams wish all the players the best of luck!
