Design in Africa. Sitting, Sleeping and Dreaming, exhibition

From Wednesday, October 10 2012 to Sunday, July 14 2013

Rest and dream.

The exhibition Design in Africa reveals a world dedicated primarily to objects which support the body. The designs on show demonstrate a creativity which is in sync with the body's positions and movements, but also with symbols of decoration. Form and function interacts, providing both comfort and prestige.

The exhibition Design in Africa and the accompanying book do not intend to confront the old with the new, but try to show how daily needs have always stimulated creativity.

The art of design, open to practices previously reserved for other forms of artistic expressions, promotes the emergence of a new aesthetic that often maintains an original dialogue with traditional cultures.

Several designers have been invited to exhibit their work, including Cheick Diallo, Alassane Drabo, Balthazar Faye, Iviart Izamba, and Ousmane Mbaye.
