The private life of the artist.
Bourdelle Intime (Private Bourdelle) opens a new perspective on the studio, place of creativity but also family life, through the selection of sixty photographs, some of them taken by Bourdelle himself or his family. Newly restored and unveiled for the first time, these images represent an opportunity to open to the public a substantial museum collection of some 15,000 photographs.
While providing a rare example of the creation and activity of studios in Montparnasse, the exhibition delivers a more intimate portrait of Bourdelle - the importance of domestic life in his workshop, his sense of friendship, his admiration and tastes... The comparison of these prints with a selection of drawings, sculptures or even overlooked paintings, reveals the intertwined relations between the artist's inner life and his creative output and highlights the strength of the photographic gesture.
